The coat of arms of Martinique
Its origin dates back to the ordinance dated August 4, 1766: All owners of vessels, buildings, schooners and boats dependent on the Government of Martinique and Saint Lucia will have their buildings provided with a blue flag with a cross which will divide the said flag into four; in each blue square and in the middle of the square, there will be the figure of a snake in white, so that there will be four snakes in white in the said Pavilion, which will be recognized from now on for that of Martinique and Sainte- Lucy.
Governor of Ennery, 1776.
